SkyeTheDogsHomeCookedTales

Hi there, this is a brand new blog completely run for and about our Romanian Street Dog called Skye OR Lara (which is her Romanian name on her Passport) a few people have asked me or rather suggested that it would be good to do a Blog for Skye and I think it's a good idea too. It will be a bit of fun
BUT there is also a serious side to this. When I first got her and saw how terrified she was I went straight to my Motherly Instincts to show her that she wouldn't be harmed (I will go into more detail in other Blogs) but it came to a time when after listening to lots of expert advice and looking up videos on You Tube, watching Ceasor Milan's troubled Dogs videos etc that my searches, for a real family who had looked after a dog terrified, almost Ferril, in the way that Skye was, always turned up nothing. To see pictures (only ones that are bearable to see) and hear stories on how other people got on, on a daily or weekly basis would have helped a lot. So this is my little bit to try and help someone else in the same situation, even if it's one little thing that helps it might just get them one step further to Adoption for the Dog.

So here she is "Skye" our Romanian Street Dog - Turned reluctant
" Domestic Dogess!
So to start with I will jump right in at the middle (that is so me!)  I will catch up with the beginning and the Forever part as I go along, there is so much to say??? I will be adding advertising to this site too, only Doggie stuff and if it makes any suitable amount of money I will be donating it to Doggie Charities - my main one being The GSD Rescue Angels which is where I got Skye from - they do great work and Suzanne Sayers and her merry team are dedicated to helping Dogs.

So now to the first Horror Story - so sorry Suzanne????

Yep it's absolutely official now Skye is a family member, our responsibility and for us to take care of and keep safe, so you can imagine after reading this Blog that my Heart was pretty much in my Mouth 😕

Skye says Hello to all her followers. Or in her own language it would be Alo ! Hey Kirsty Goodwill  & Jules all that practice paid off! Anyway this was Skye after this mornings walk well she looks like she hasn't been anywhere doesn't she? I always feel that no matter how far I walk her it just doesn't even begin to get her warmed up? Maybe she should have been adopted by a fit Athlete?? She definitely runs like the wind as I found out yesterday when I dropped the lead, she wouldn't even have run away except the noise of it hitting the floor scared her.  She was off and out of sight in a second. All the cars where piling up in the lane waiting to pick the kids up too so I was frightened on every level? Would she completely disappear, would she get run over, if someone found her and tried to pick up the lead would she bite them? Or even worse would she run further away!!!! Would Suzanne Syers who runs the GSD Rescue Angels Charity find out and come and clip my ear? I chased after her but she disappeared in front of my eyes. I thought she had gone in the Farmers field so I ran back Grabbed Hannah from the teacher and went searching telling people not to approach her if they saw her, she would run in fear again.

This was Skye's very first visit to the Beach.  She looks like she is contemplating life doesn't she?
Are you telling tales on me????

So as we searched and panicked and searched and panicked a few people tried to help us? TRY being the operative word!!! One person sent us off on a wild goose chase, another stopped to ask her colour size, age??? About 10 years old by the time you let me get on searching for her I thought ungraTefully????

This Domestic Dogess stuff is hard to handle!!!
In my Heart of Hearts I had a gut feeling, as she is a very intelligent Dog that she might stop by our car parked right at the other end of the lane (this way we get a longer walk). See I had noticed the day before that she now recognises our driveway by the car, I could tell by the way she looked at it, stopped herself and turned to walk up the drive? Not rocket science see, just body language.

It took us Three Months to get this Harness on her without her looking like she wanted to EAT US !!!
Anyway back to the Search. Hannah (my Daughter) who desperately wanted to find her first asked if she could go up the lane ahead of me (because another HELPFUL person was stopping me from looking by asking all about the origins of my rescue Dog that I had just LOST?!?!)  So I say Yes to Hannah as I try to escape the consecutive questions of the HELPFUL Person and suddenly out the corner of my eye I see one very Proud looking Daughter with one very sheepish looking Dog!

Poor thing was a bit traumatised by her escape but she was sat almost exactly where I imagined she would be if she had worked her way back up the lane where I had parked the car 10 minutes before.  Hannah said she was just sat there and flinched away from her until she recognised her and wagged her taiil, Hannah grabbed her lead and Skye willingly joned her. See when you nearly loose a pet you realise how much you love them. So this taking full responsibility thing, keeping her save and secure!!! Mmmmmm? The way to do that is to always remember how frightened she is and how suddenly a panick attack could do her serious harm!

Butter Wouldn't Melt Eh?
She soon got over her trauma!!!!

So I won't tell you about the escape from the house incident  yet????

The result? I have always dropped that lead, even when it belonged to Max our Collie/Lab Cross who we had to say goodbye to a year ago at the ripe old age of 14 yr 11 months. So I will use a lead with a smaller, easy to grip handle and when "Parked" at the school with lots of noise and activity I will pop on the slip rope lead. I am not taking any more chances.

This is our Max on his last ever Camping Trip with some of his mates. He is the one on the left. x
So in my next post I will come back to the beginning of Skye's story as we know it.
I hope you will enjoy reading this Blog and become a follower, and if it Helps just one Fosterer or Adopter of a future Terrified Rescue Dog then it is definitely worth While.
Bye for now
Sam Crowe - Failed Fosterer and Adoptee of Skye Crowe. xx

  6. You are definitely not a failed fosterer and adoptee of Skye...you always knew where you'd find her because you have become so atuned to her ways. You all love her so much and she has already come so far due to your patience, care and hard work. I'm really looking forward to becoming a regular reader of Skye's blog. Keep up the good work...but then I don't need to say that, because you already know that she's worth it. Xxxx

    1. the term failed fosterer means we adopted our foster dog, as a fosterer we are meant to foster the dog until the forever home come along and adopts them, which is very hard to do and some times we get a dog that we just can't bare saying goodbye even though we know they are going to have a fantastic life and the foster dog ends up being adopted by us so thats what the saying failed fosterer means it's good thing :)

  8. Already a sensible dog and knows where she is well off! Having two Romanian rescue dogs next door (we paid for the second one to come over!) we know how rewarding they can be. X

    1. Oh that's great Jackie and very kind of you. I have paid towards the flight for one of Skye's Brothers to come over here and Suzanne who runs the Charity I got Skye from has got one of her Sisters. You say next door, you haven't succumbed to having one yourself yet then?? xxx

  9. Skye is a lucky doggie to be living with such a loving (and ever-so-slightly scatty!) family. I am sure she is very grateful to you all. I am looking forward to reading the rest of her story. xxx
